Dr. Vance’s Legacy

“It has been my pleasure to serve this community with the very best orthodontic care for the past 43 years. It has been even better to work alongside my son, Dr. David, for the last 14 years. Now that I am retired, I am confident that he will continue the strong tradition that Dykhouse Orthodontics has established into the future.” — Dr. Vance J. Dykhouse

Dr. Vance J. Dykhouse completed his Doctorate of Dental Surgery at UMKC in 1966 after doing his undergraduate work at the University of Oklahoma. Following two years in the Navy, Dr. Vance began his orthodontic residency at UMKC and completed his master’s degree in orthodontics in 1970. He has been practicing orthodontics in Eastern Jackson County since 1970 and became board certified in 1978.

In 1999, Dr. Vance was selected by his peers to an eight-year term as the Midwest Director to the American Board of Orthodontics. Dr. Vance was president of the American Board of Orthodontics from May 2006 to May 2007. He was also the recipient of the ABO’s Dale B. Wade Award of Excellence in Orthodontics in 2014.

In addition to maintaining his orthodontic practice, Dr. Vance has taught as a part-time faculty member in the orthodontic department at the UMKC School of Dentistry for 30 years. He served on the Missouri Orthodontics Specialty Board from 1979 to 1989. Dr. Vance also is a member of numerous local and national dental and orthodontic societies, including the Charles H. Tweed Foundation and the Edward H. Angle Society.

Dr. Vance and his wife have two children and six grandchildren. He is a big sports fan and especially enjoys watching his grandchildren participate in different sports.
